
The second thing that comes to mind is the "mind the gap" logo from British railways. The logo is known worldwide yet is simple and straight forward in its message.

The last thing that comes to mind are restroom signs. The symbols for Men's and Women's rooms are almost universal. However the signs that come to mind specifically are McGuire's bathroom signs that show just how ingrained people are at looking for only the biggest detail and don't stop to read everything.
